Arzúa to Amenal 24 km before the rain    Walking Day #30

This day was another really nice day on the Camino de Santiago. The weather threatened rain all day, but the rain did not come until about 3:30 or 4:00 PM, well after I was in my hotel in Amenal. Tomorrow morning should be clear or light drizzle.

I'll publish this, and update the text tomorrow.I am starting very early tomorrow (we are hoping to leave the hotel by 6:30 AM) with six new friends from Singapore.

Walking through the farmland and mostly forest in the last long day before walking in to Santiago de Compostela.

More forest, shady, and cool.

We crossed a new-looking bridge that is crossing what appears to be a new highway under construction.

A view of the highway construction from the walking bridge,

A rare clearing and field in the forested area.

Back into the forest. In the summer this shade will be a nice break from the sun. Today, it is a little cool, but still nice.

The forest is quite dense in places with breaks where the Camino path crosses.

A Camino way marker monument showing just 20 kilometers to go to Santiago.

After passing the last town where most pilgrims stop, I was walking the last 3 or 4 kilometers in this old-growth, dense forest by myself. It was quiet except for the occasional bird, and quite peaceful and meditative.

At Amenal, all three signs point to going through the tunnel under the highway, I do not need more clarity about which way to go. On the other side is the hotel. Yay!

Having dinner with six new friends from Singapore. I'll walk with them tomorrow morning (early) and get their names. We had a really nice time at dinner, trying and sharing many dishes. It was great fun and a very tasty meal.

Next: Walking into Santiago de Compostela.
